Disney's Theme Park Tickets Explained

Overview

At first sight the ticket options appear to be mind-boggling as there are so many choices, so on this page we will explain the different aspects of the tickets to help you make your choice. We will also cover some of the concepts of what the various options mean.

Comparison Of Ticket Options

Each ticket comes in two options:

  • Flexible start date and 14 days expiry
  • Fixed start date and shorter than 14 days expiry (dependant on the number of days you buy the ticket for)

For flexible start date tickets, you can start usig the ticket on any date and then have 14 days to use any remaining days on the ticket. Ignore the last column in the table below for these kind of tickets.

For fixed start date tickets, you have to nominate a start date for the ticket and you can only first use the ticket on the nominated start date. The table below also sets out the number of days from this start date you have to use the ticket.

Disney no longer offer no-expiry tickets unfortunately.

The 4 Main Disney Parks

All of the tickets offer a certain number of days in the 4 main Disney Parks. The 4 Main Disney Parks are

  • Magic Kingdom - Famous for Cinderella's Castle
  • EPCOT - Composing Future World and World Show Case
  • Hollywood Studios - Where you can 'Ride the Movies'
  • Animal Kingdom - An amusement park / Safari Park

Example:

A 5 Day Theme Park Base Ticket would allow you 5 days in the 4 Main Parks.

You do not have to use all / any individual park(s), so you could use 2 days at Magic Kingdom, 2 at Hollywood Studios and 1 at Epcot and not visit Animal Kingdom to make up the 5 days, or you could visit Animal Kingdom for 5 Days.

The Plus Options

As well as the 4 main Disney parks outlined above, you can purchase tickets with Plus Options for a small extra charge. The Optional visits are over and above the main days purchased on the ticket, and the number of optional days varies depending on the number of main days purchased.

  • Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park
  • Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park
  • Disney's Oak Trail Golf Course
  • Miniature golf at Disney's Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf Course
  • Miniature golf at Disney's Winter Summerland Miniature Golf Course
  • ESPN Wide World Of Sports Complex

As with the main Disney Park days, the options can be used in any combination - you can visit the same option for the number of optional days on your ticket, or you can visit any mixture of options.

The number of options available on your ticket depends on the number of main Disney Park days purchased as follows (also remember most tickets you select whether you want the options or not).

Hopping (see below) is not available between the optional Disney attractions outlined here.

Hopper or No Hopper?

The term 'Hopper' means to visit more than one of the main Disney parks in a single Day. Tickets with the Hopper allow you to spend part of the day in one of the main parks and part of the day in another main park (in fact any number of parks in a single day) while still only using 1 day's worth of your ticket.

Hopping Examples

Example 1: If you have a 3 Day Theme Park Ticket with Park Hopper Option then you may take 1 day at Magic Kingdom, 1 day at Hollywood Studios, half a day at Animal Kingdom and the other half of that day at Epcot

Example 2: If you have a 3 Theme Park Base Ticket, you may spend day 1at Magic Kingdom, then spend day 2 at Hollywood Studios, then spend day 3 at Epcot. You cannot visit more than one main park in the same day, even if you are prepared to use 2 days of your ticket for it.

Important Note: Hopper does not apply to the optional Disney Plus attractions - only the 4 main parks. Even if you purchase a ticket with a Hopper Option, if you visit 2 Plus Options in one day then 2 Plus will be deducted from your ticket. Likewise, if you visit a main park in the daytime, then for example visit Disney's Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf Course in the evening, then you will have used 1 main Disney Day as well as 1 Plus day.

Guest Exchange Of Tickets

All tickets above that have been used in full or in part may be exchanged by the guest at the ticket window at any of the 4 theme parks. In such an exchange, the guest can apply the "Historic Retail Value" for the ticket already purchased against the purchase of a new ticket so long as the new ticket is the same as the old ticket except for the start date.

If the purchase of the new ticket is greater than such Historic Retail Value, the guest shall pay the difference. If the purchase of the new ticket is less than such Historic Retail Value, the guest shall not be entitled to any refund.
