Pirates of the Caribbean.
Florida Guide > Disney Parks
Pirates of the Caribbean is located in Adventureland, in the Caribbean Plaza of the Magic Kingdom and opened on December 15, 1973.
Yo Ho! Yo Ho! A Pirates Life for Me! This is the song that is sung throughout the attraction, and your kids will be singing it for days!
It takes you back in time to the West Indies in the 1700s, when Spain brought gold from the New World back home and Pirates ruled the waves! It is a boat ride taking you through the scene of pirates raiding a Caribbean sea port. The attraction now features Captain Jack Sparrow so be sure to look out for him as you pass through the ride.
As you enter the attraction, the walkway to the boats is long and winding as if you are walking through old dungeons and caves. The detail is up to Disney standard and there is plenty to keep you occupied while you make your way to the passenger boats. These flat-bottomed boats are propelled by jets of water as pumps create a current that carries the boats through the canal
When you board your boat you go down a small drop and find yourself in an area with a skeleton and a beach scene and moving forward you sail into the middle of the port of a Caribbean city under attack by the pirates, lots of shooting is going on and the cannons are blasting the ships.
As you pass through the battle you move into the town and witness a rowdy group of pirates in search of gold and adventure. Pirates chasing women, women chasing pirates, pirates in jail trying to attract the dog that has the keys in its mouth so they can make their escape, (be sure to look out for the pirate on the bridge with the disgustingly dirty feet) and a final scene with drunken pirates and Jack Sparrow, (from the popular ' Pirates of the Caribbean' films ) surrounded by gold and other treasures!
The eight and a half minute ride is over much too quickly! There' s so much to see and the animated figures, including 65 pirates & villagers and 60 animals and birds keep your attention.
As you exit the ride you enter a shop where all sorts of pirate ware is on sale. My boys when they were younger had to buy a sword and pirate hat, and a little bag of pirate treasure!
Here are the lyrics so you can remember your visit and sing in the bath perhaps!
YO HO (A PIRATE' S LIFE FOR ME)
Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate' s life for me.
We pillage, we plunder, we rifle, and loot,
Drink up, me ' earties, yo ho.
We kidnap and ravage and don' t give a hoot,
Drink up me ' earties, yo ho.
