Applebees A great place to eat.

“Applebee' s” a lovely place to eat.

During a recent trip to our villa we decided to eat at Applebee' s. We had never been before but it had been recommended by some friends as being a nice relaxing place with a good atmosphere that served great food.

There are several Applebee' s in the Orlando area, one located on John Young Parkway and another on the Highway 192 East of Disney. However the one we chose to visit was near Davenport, on the 27, south from the 192.

We were seated promptly at a lovely table near the window, with plenty of space for our party of 5. The server was great, friendly, but not overpowering. On each of the tables is what at first glance is an ashtray, don’t panic, its not! The “ashtray” is actually an electronic pager system for your server, you just press it once and hey presto, as if by magic your server promptly appears to assist you. Great!

The choice of food is extensive, but our server gave us plenty of time to read through the menu and decide. The food is all reasonably priced, appetizers from $7 upwards, though they are half price after 10pm…which is great if you are on your way back from a late night at the parks and fancy a snack and a drink.

Main courses start from about $8. 50 for a sandwich, salad or burger. My husband chose the Bourbon Street steak, which he says was really nice, cooked just how he liked it and very tasty, served with loaded mashed potato and asparagus. I had a grilled chicken dish, piled high with mushrooms, peppers, onions and topped with melted cheese, it was served with garlic mash potatoes which were just gorgeous!

Grandma chose the California shrimp salad, which looked delicious, with lots of avocado, plenty of large shrimps and bacon. The children’s meals were also good value and included a drink and ice cream.

All the food our party ordered was very nice and well served by an attentive server who, although the restaurant was busy, didn’t need to be called on the pager to refresh our drinks, they kept appearing as if by magic as well. Each table had a visit from the happy manager, if he doesn’t visit your table during the meal, you get $10 off your check.

The amount of food was more than ample and we were left with no space to try one of the desserts, such as strawberry cheesecake, mile high crème pie or the triple chocolate melt down…. Our group decided we would have to visit again for just an appetizer to share, so leaving room for one of the very indulgent desserts!
