Want to spend a day away from the parks and still do something with an American feel then the Florida Firearms experience could be what you are looking for. The range is situated South of I4 and West of US27 but good directions are given.
If your kids play on the Call of Duty Games (COD) like mine they will be in their elements as the guns you use are also used at the firearms experience
The group is kept quite small (there were eight of us) and very relaxed. You all get a target and walk down the range with it to pin up on your individual stand. You write your name on it, where you are from and something about yourself. This really breaks the ice and you are all friends from that point on.
You are split into two’s, as you need a spotter with binoculars to help you locate your shots. It is a competition for the best shooter and also the most improved but all done in a very relaxed and friendly manner. You are given a score sheet, which has the list of events on, and the totals are added up at the end of the day.
In the morning we used AK47 & M4 Carbines (assault rifles) aiming at targets and also skittles hanging from string (150 feet away). Then after the included lunch of a cold, drink, sub, chips (crisps to us in the UK) and fruit, you get to use a super powerful shotgun and the not as easy as you would think Glok 9mm pistols.
Everything is included in the price and Jim who runs it is very good and will keep you all very safe with such high-powered guns.
My wife didn’t think she would be able to see the targets let alone hit any but came along anyway. She is left handed and hasn’t got the best eyesight but when she hit 9/10 right handed it gave us all hope!
You start at 10am and finish around 3pm (depending on numbers) and get your target to roll up and take home with you as a memento. If you are skilled enough you may also pick up one of the awards.
Our children were 15 & 14 at the time and easily coped with the guns.
