Stars and Motor Cars Parade - Hollywood Studios
Florida Guide > Hollywood Studios
Apparently Walt Disney was infatuated with parades when he was young. Whenever a circus came to his town he would follow it all around the parade route. Afterwards with his sister and friends he would try to build and decorate floats so that he could have his own parade.
Disney's Stars and Motor Cars Parade in Disney Hollywood Studios started in October 2001 in conjunction with the 100 Years of Magic Celebration, a celebration that lasted for a year.
The parade takes place late in the afternoon and last about half an hour. I do not know whether the time is listed in the Times Guide because whenever we have been there we have heard it start and gone over to watch it. It is very interactive, and there are many characters walking around that will stop and shake hands with you along the parade route. I believe there are about seven guests selected each day to act as Grand Marshals or to carry banners near the end of the parade but I do not know how they get selected.
A great place to view it is at its beginning, at the Star Tours gate, if you cant get there try to go down the side of Sid Cahuenga's as this is where the parade finishes.
You will see 15 cars and 2 motorcycles in this celebrity cavalcade that features custom cars from Walt Disney's movie-making career. Celebrities from television and the cinema come together and you will see amongst others Aladdin and Jasmine, Luke Skywalker, Power Rangers, Miss Piggy, Mary Poppins and of course Mickey Mouse himself.
Commentators along the parade route will share Walt Disney facts as the parade makes its way through the park.
The cars are all customized, many of them being vintage models.
Last time we went we saw the newest additions from the Disney/Pixar movie Cars – It bought back fond memories of the film when we saw Lightning McQueen, the bright red race car, and Mater, the tow truck.
There are so many cars to see you will be mesmerised. Our girls particularly like the Mary Poppins Car because they can see Mary Poppins, Bert and the Penguins who are dancing as they all walk down the street.
The Aladdin float has Aladdin and Jasmine on top of the Genie vehicle while Harem Girls dance alongside it.
Be sure you do not miss the Muppets car with Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and Sweetums.
For younger children there is the Playhouse Disney float, which includes Bear, Stanley, Treelo, and P and J Otter inside a big blue house car while JoJo and Goliath walk along with the parade. Young children will also enjoy Lilo and Stitch who are in a float covered with surfboards and palm trees.
There are so many other floats to see including Star Wars, Mulan, the Power Rangers, Monsters inc and Toy Story.
The parade concludes with a very old Cadillac carrying Mickey, Minnie and friends. Last time we went the girls managed to shake hands with Alice, White Rabbit and Pinocchio.
As the parade takes place late afternoon long after lunch and quite a while before dinner we usually have an excuse to have an ice cream before or after we watch it!
