Disney’s Boardwalk

Florida Guide > Disney General

Feel like a change from the theme parks? Well why not spend a little time down at Disney’s Boardwalk. Parking is free at the Boardwalk, although you will need to present some form of photo ID to the security guard at the entrance barrier. Alternatively, follow the signs for Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf from World Drive and take advantage of their free parking.

From Fantasia Gardens cross the main road and a pedestrian walkway leads between the Disney’s Swan and Dolphin hotels. The inviting entrance to the Boardwalk area is easily located just a few yards further on. To leisurely walk around the lake will take about an hour or so….but there are plenty of distractions on the way around to tempt you with.

The Beach Club and Yacht Club resorts not only offer accommodation but also casual dining and shopping. Don’t miss a visit to ‘Beaches and Cream’ if you are partial to ice cream.

On the subject of food, Big River Grille and Brewing Works provides terrific food and the opportunity to watch beer brewing in action. At the ESPN Club enjoy a drink whilst watching your favourite sporting events on large screen televisions. The Flying Fish Café specialises in fish and steak dishes and Spoodles offers something for all in a family friendly environment.

Take a free trip on one of the frequent ferries that zigzag across the lake, stopping several times, en route to their final destinations at the entrances to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios respectively, or hire a four-wheeled bicycle with a ‘surrey’ fringe on the top.

At night Boardwalk is both atmospheric and truly enchanting as the myriad of lights from the shops and eateries dance and reflect in the clear waters of the lake with the illuminated ferry boats still plying their trade between the theme parks. Street entertainers abound and a number of fairground stalls offer the opportunity to test your skill levels in an attempt to win the obligatory ‘cuddly toy’.

Some of the evening entertainment venues do have an age limit but the Atlantic Dance Hall and Jellyrolls are well worth a visit if you are over 21.

As an added bonus, if you are around at 9.00pm, the firework display at EPCOT is clearly visible from the Boardwalk area and can provide the perfect finale to your day. However, if your energy levels are still high why not try eighteen holes of miniature golf on one of the two award winning courses at Fantasia Gardens on your way back to the car.
