Easter at Walt Disney World, Orlando, Florida.

Florida Guide > Disney Parks

Easter is probably the most popular time to visit Orlando, as the weather is warming up and there is low humidity, making it ideal weather for long days at the parks. Not only that but the parks are a riot of colour as the flowers and plants come into full bloom. However, it can be very busy.

Of course, Disney has lots of activities planned for the weeks surrounding Easter, and whilst these may be different each year, here are some of the things which have happened at this busy holiday season in previous years, to give you an idea of what might be on offer in 2013. There will be bunnies abounding and lots of Easter eggs to keep the children amused – guaranteed!

No Easter event would be complete without an Easter Bunny, and at Walt Disney World there are normally two – Mr and Mrs Easter Bunny offer plenty of opportunities to meet and greet them, as well as having your photograph taken with the festive couple. As well as this bunny pair, many of the Disney characters appear in Easter Costumes for the Easter Parade, which takes place every afternoon down Main Street in Magic Kingdom, in the weeks around Easter. Mr and Mrs Bunny can usually be found hopping along during the pre-parade show which normally begins around 2. 50 pm on Easter Sunday.

Easter egg hunts take place in the World Showcase, at the American Adventure’s Heritage Garden for children aged 3 to 9 years old, and these are usually at 30 minute intervals from 11. 40 am until 5. 40 pm. A smaller egg hunt area is usually provided for children under the age of 3 years. If you wish your children to take part in these Easter egg hunts you will need to check in at the podium located at the United Kingdom area, around 30 minutes before the start of each hunt. Future World, near Innoventions West, is the location for Easter Egg relays, too. These are available every 40 minutes between 10. 40 am and 4. 40 pm for children aged 6 to 12 years old.

If you fancy an Easter Buffet, then Epcot’s World Show Place Pavilion, located between Canada and the UK, offers a variety of options such as eggs and omelettes, salads, soups, chicken, pasta, beef and desserts, as well as special kids stations serving macaroni cheese and pizza. Advance reservations are required for this very popular brunch.

Animal Kingdom offers storytelling sessions with Pocahontas as well as character meet and greets at the Good Time Gathering Spot at Camp Minnie-Mickie. Thumper and Mrs Bunny are usually available, too.

Be aware that times, and events, may change from year to year, so it is always worth checking out what’s on offer nearer the time. Rita Fraser
