Exploring Disneys Hollywood Studios
Florida Guide > Hollywood Studios
Disney’s Hollywood Studios opened in 1989 although in those days it was named MGM Studios. It is not only the third and smallest theme park in Walt Disney World Resort, but also it is a fully fledged working TV production facility although most of it is closed nowadays. The park combines top notch shows and rides based on Disney and Metro-Golden-Mayer films of which Disney bought all rights. It has entertaining and educational shows and tours that allow visitors to take a glimpse ‘inside the magic’ by seeing how the films and TV shows are made. Escorted tours are the only way to see the working parts of the Studios. Like Universal Studios, Disney’s Hollywood Studios gears itself towards adults and teenagers, but it has a more old fashioned nostalgic feel to it.
Tackling the park is not the same as the other parks and is laid out somewhat differently, although Hollywood Boulevard acts as a sort of “Main Street USA’ with the purpose of funnelling guests towards the attractions. Over the past few years Disney has upgraded and expanded the scope of the attractions, building some of the best in Orlando. The entertainment schedule changes frequently and streets can be closed off during the visit of a celebrity. Nowadays, you can get free Apps for your i-phone or i-pod touch which will keep you up to date as to the times of the different shows and the parades. There is also a different App that will give you the wait times for each ride so a useful tool to have. If you are not fortunate enough to have these modern gadgets, you can visit Guest Services and pick up a flyer which gives you all the events and times for that day. This is very useful in planning your day so that you don’t miss out on different events going on.
As with the other Disney Parks, arriving early is the key to try to avoid the long waiting lines that increase throughout the day. It is also worth taking note that some of the attractions are particularly intense and can easily frighten younger children. At around 3. 30pm Hollywood Studios holds its afternoon parade. The open plan of the park means that guests can find themselves getting extremely hot whilst waiting for the parade, so try to make sure you have plenty of drinks available whilst you are waiting.
You can’t fail to have a great day.
