Magic Kingdom - Futureland

Florida Guide > Magic Kingdom

Future land follows on from Fantasy land. As you pass the Tea Cup ride you will find the go- karts on your left. Children absolutely love this. They drive on a large circuit at a very slow speed on tracks but they can steer to a certain extent.

After this there is the Starlight café. This is one of the biggest eateries in the Magic Kingdom and has a robotic character, an alien disc jockey which the children find fascinating, as do some adults it has to be said.

Passing this we approach the world famous Space Mountain. This roller coaster does have height restrictions but is fairly tame compared to some that are around in Orlando now. It is fast enough to be exciting but you do not to be strapped down as you will not be turning upside down. This ride has long queues so it might be worth taking a fast pass for this and come back to it at a later time during the day.

Alongside Space Mountain is the Carousel of Progress. This is a theatre where the seats move but the stage stays still. It is a fun show of robots talking about the changes we have experienced over the last hundred years. It shows the same family in various stages of life during the last century up to date and into the future. So see what life was like at the turn of the twentieth century right up to what it may be like in the future.

To the right of this are two rides; one is the skyway, a very gentle ride over the top of Future Land and gives you a chance to look at the park from above. Right next to this is a rocket ride which is actually as tame as Dumbo the Flying Elephant ride, but very much higher up.

Carrying on round to the right is Lilo and Stitch. This is a show which can be very scary for tiny ones who don’t like the dark. It all takes place in the dark and features the mischievous character who escapes from captivity and appears to run around on the audience’s shoulders. Opposite to this is Buzz Lightyear, a ride in which you take part in shooting down aliens – good fun for the little boys (and big ones? )

Last in this area is the Monsters Inc. show, an interactive show by all the characters in the movie, Monsters Inc.

Some of these rides may change due to Disneys planned refurbishment which is taking place at the moment.

This will then take you back to Main Street and all the wonderful shops and cafes. So take a break and have, maybe an ice cream or cream cake, then hit the shops!
