Star Tours - Hollywood Studios

Florida Guide > Hollywood Studios

Star Tours can be found on the far side of Disney Hollywood Studios, beyond Echo Lake. Characters from the Star Wars films, such as Chewbacca, can sometimes be seen outside the Star Tours attraction.

My brother thinks this is the best ride in the whole of Disney and he likes very rough rides. This very popular flight simulator ride was inspired by the original Star Wars movie trilogy and sends you to the Moon of Endor on anything but a smooth flight!

The height requirement for Star Tours is 40 inches and children under 3 are not permitted on it, an adult must accompany children under 7.

This is a Fastpass ride and the standby lines for Star Tours can be very long. The best time to go to this ride is early in the morning before queues develop, or during the afternoon parade. Also late at night the queues are not very long shortly before the park closes, my brother has managed to ride several times consecutively at this time.

The outside queue goes through an Ewok village (you can even hear Ewoks chanting at night), leading you under the enormous AT-AT walker standing guard at the entrance. Once inside, the premise you walk through the hangar area of the intergalactic travel agency "Star Tours. " Here you see characters from the Star Wars films like C3PO and R2D2, while Admiral Ackbar and friend transport small droids on conveyors other droids maintain equipment watched.

You then go to the transport area, and before you board your starspeeder to Endor, a brief but entertaining video on overhead monitors describes the loading procedure and flight. Look out for the Hidden Mickey in this video, the second Ewok to enter the Starspeeder is holding a stuffed animal - Mickey Mouse!

The roughest ride in the simulator is on the ends of the very back row and you also get the best view of the action on the screen. My brother usually asks a Cast Member if he can sit in one of these seats whilst I prefer a smoother ride and ask to ride in the middle or toward the front of the simulator.

Make sure your belongings are safely under your seat, as they will get thrown about during the flight.

Your pilot RX-24, or Captain Rex, a droid on his first solo flight, has not quite got used to the programming which means you are all on a bumpy flight in an out-of-control starspeeder!

Although the ride only lasts about ten minutes you go past comets and icy asteroids and you have to avoid Imperial fighters. Helping to get rid of the evil Empire you go through the trench of the Death Star before crash-landing back home in the hangar.

If you like Star Wars and thrill rides be sure not to miss Star Tours.
