The World Show Case - Epcot

Florida Guide > Epcot

Epcot is one of my favourite parks but the world showcase sometimes gets overlooked.

First, remember to wear your most comfortable shoes, you will be doing a lot of walking, especially around the world showcase. Plan to spend quite a few hours in the world show case as it is easy to miss something. Each country represented has so much to see.

They all put on shows during the day, which represent the country itself. For example, in Britain the “Bootleg Beatles” put on a show through out the day, Italy has strolling players and opera singers, France has a mime artist and pavement artists and Canada has the Canadian rock pipers which is a cross over of rock and roll music played with guitars and bagpipes.

In the American pavilion, there is a show of animatronics Presidents who speak about the start of American history. Outside there is the concert stage which stages different shows. We saw Michael Flatley and his Feet of Fire show which was absolutely amazing and during November and December they have a choir of one thousand voices singing carols with guest narrators telling the story of the birth of Jesus. The concerts are not the same each year but vary every year, apart from the carol concerts which are a standard.

Some countries have rides - Norway has a ride through Norway but encounter Trolls on the way who send them back down a quite gentle drop – Mexico has a ride through the streets of Mexico in a gentle boat ride and Canada has a panoramic film of Canada.

All the countries have shops selling products from their country and most have restaurants and cafes selling their own local produce. You will find the cakes in the café in France as some of the best available in Orlando, although those in Norway are very good as well. Britain quite naturally is represented by Harry Ramsdon’s fish and chips and also has a pub.

Finally, the fireworks. I have heard people say, “Oh we didn’t bother staying to see the fireworks”, but this display is unlike any other you have ever seen. They are a mixture of lasers and fireworks all set to music. They are a very spectacular sight and last for 15 minutes, except during November and December, when there is an extra five minutes of Christmas themed fireworks and music. The best places to watch from are the Cantina in Mexico or Harry Ramsdon’s garden in England. You will need to get to either of these places early to get a seat or you can stand and see them from anywhere around the world show case.

These fireworks are a spectacular way to end a very enjoyable day.
