1900 Park Fayre-Character Breakfast
Florida Guide > Dining
The Grand Floridian hosts a character breakfast each morning in their Park Fayre restaurant featuring our favourite characters Winnie the Pooh, Tigger and EEyore. Also there wereMary Poppins, Alice in Wonderland and the Mad Hatter.
It is a bit of a Mad Hatter's tea party with all the children and characters around but it is great fun.
I was a bit dubious when I first went to this as I wondered as an adult if I would feel a bit embarrassed but really the characters are so prefessional that you really do get carried away-also we had two little grandsons in tow-so I could hide behind them.
First of all you meet in the reception area and Mary Poppins was waiting there-she was Oh So English and very charming and soon put the children at their ease -Toby who was about 9 months and Josh who was 18 months at the time .
Then you are taken to your table and the fun really begins. Breakfast is buffet style with the usual accompaniements-bacon, sausages, eggs, omelettes, pastries, cereals, toast, jams, jellies and honey, grits and so on. I think the food is lovely and certainly had no complaints.
Meanwhile the characters come out and approach your table. They are really happy to spend some time with you. In fact Alice was absolutely adorable-a little girl had her by the hand and was walking her all round the breakfast area-she really made that little girl feel so special.
As we had a little baby with us-Winnie, Tigger and EEyore were very gentle with him and really playful and he loved it. Unlike his much older cousin who just cried and yelled when anyone of them approached-which was a shame-but the characters were brilliant and kept their distance and gradually Josh was able to observe them from a safe distance although he still would not let them get too near.
I can understand why they use characters that don't have their faces covered like Alice, Mad Hatter and Mary Poppins. Josh was fine with them and the Mad Hatter was just wonderful-I was mesmerised by him. You are able to take lots of pictures, nobody rushes you and all in all-it's a fantastic morning.Something to consider for your last morning when you have to go to the airport-to make your trip all the more memorable.
The venue is all wheelchair accessible and we paid about $24 a head while under children 2 years are free.
The Grand Floridian is a beatiful Disney Hotel on the Seven Seas Lagoon. It is linked to the Magic Kingdom by monorail and it is possible to see the fireworks from there also. They have a lovely wedding chapel and it is very popular for the traditional Disney wedding with Cinderella's coach and all the trimmings.
1900 Park Fayre restaurant is on the ground floor.
