Carrabbas Italian Grill

Florida Guide > Dining

We had heard a few good reports about this restaurant, but we always like to make our own opinion of things, as we are all different. We were not disappointed.

Carrabbas is situated on Highway 192 close to Mile Marker 4, heading east. We booked in advance, as the restaurant can be very busy.

On entering the restaurant we were surprised as to how low the lighting was in the area they had escorted us to so we asked for a lighter table, no problem. The waiter asked us if we would like to try the wine they had on offer. As we are not very knowledgeable about wine, the waiter brought us half a glass of each to try and when we had decided, he left both glasses for us to finish!

Not being able to decide on what we wanted to eat, we asked the waiter what Carrabbas sold most of on a daily basis. We were shown the specials board and I decided to try something different. As I usually eat fish or chicken, I decided to try pork chops. Now I have had these back in England, cooked by myself, and very nice they were too! I did realise I was ordering 2 chops which were both 8 oz each and knew I would not be able to eat all on the plate but I would have a go. They came with garlic mash, and mushroom gravy. I am salivating just writing these words. The accompaniments were delicious but I was overwhelmed by the size of the chops. Nothing wrong at all with them, they were perfectly cooked and presented but I just did not fancy them once I had tasted the other food on the plate and I do tend to choose on the side of lighter meats and usually vegetables. When the waiter came to clear our plates, he was quite upset that I had left the chops. I explained my position and he took the plates away. He came back a short while after and stated he had discussed the situation to his manager and they would not be charging me for the meal!

The servings were so large we could not face a sweet. We have decided we will revisit Carrabbas on our next trip in April 2007. After receiving the best service we have ever had in any restaurant around the world, we left a hefty tip for our waiter, John.
