Journey to Atlantis

Florida Guide > Other Parks

This is one of our favourite Parks and always guarantees a more tranquil day out than the busier Disney Parks.

My parents, who visit our villa twice a year, have two year passes which are not that expensive as they give unlimited access to Seaworld, free parking (at time of writing this article this costs $12) and ten per cant off merchandise and dining. In addition they can have free rides in the sky train whenever they want.

One of our favourite attractions is Journey to Atlantis. However this can get very busy, with waits of up to an hour. It is always best to avoid trying to go on it after the Blue Horizons show finishes as the crowds from here tend to head to the ride resulting in long queues.

We find the best times to go are either as soon as the park opens in the morning or at the end of the day. At the end of the day just before the park closes everyone is at the shows so the queues are short and you can see the fireworks from the ride as well.

The story behind the ride is that the lost city of Atlantis has risen and there is a water coaster adventure ride through the mysterious and ancient city. It is in a setting reminiscent of Greece with a sparkling 10-story tower adorned with intricate mosaics and crowned by a blue dome and a golden seahorse. As you the board the eight passenger Greek fishing boats for a closer look, you are pulled into Atlantis by a gentle current.

When you get inside the darkened maze, Allura, an evil spirit who lives within Atlantis, makes her mischievous presence known as your boat dives, falls, dodges, plummets, plunges and dashes at high speed through the ancient lost city. You will experience serpentine twists and speed down two of the steepest, fastest, wettest drops to be found anywhere.

Be prepared you can get very very wet on this ride. If you want the thrill of the water without getting soaked you can always take a rain mac with you. The wettest place to sit is in the front couple of rows. If you sit at the back you will keep drier although you will still get wet. The advantage of going on this ride late at night is that rather than walk around the park in soaking clothes for the rest of the day you can go home afterwards to get dry clothes.

If you like water rides this is a “Must Do”.
