RocknRoller Coaster - Hollywood Studios

Florida Guide > Hollywood Studios

The Rock 'n' Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios which stars Aerosmith opened in 1999 and is a Fast pass ride. It is located on the left near the end of Sunset Boulevard, just before you reach the Hollywood Tower Hotel.

This is a great attraction and queues can get quite long. We usually get our Fastpass, and then go over to the nearby Tower of Terror while waiting for our Fastpass window to open.

The height requirement for the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster is 48 inches (122 cm) and it is a very fast, very loud, very dark ride. Only the adults in our party go on this coaster with its twists, turns and inversions.

The Pre-show begins with you getting a glimpse into the sound booth at the fictional G-Force Records. There you see the hard rock band Aerosmith finishing up a studio recording session. It seems as though the band is actually interacting with you and you are invited by lead singer Steven Tyler to a concert.

If you just want to see the Pre-show, or if you change your mind about riding this attraction at the last minute, you can use the so-called "chicken exit. " After viewing the pre-show, you are taken into an alleyway and the exit is to the far left of the alleyway, just before the queue winds around for guests to board the limos. Just tell the Cast Member that you do not want to ride, and they will show you the exit. The exit goes into the gift shop where you can wait for the rest of your party.

In the darkened back alleyway you await a "Super Stretch" limo. The 24-passenger limo roars up to you and you climb in, securing yourself with a padded u-bar. Each limo plays a different Aerosmith track. Among the popular Aerosmith songs heard are, Dude Looks Like a Lady; Walk This Way; Sweet Emotion; and Love in an Elevator.

After a few moments of build-up, you are launched into the wild ride, swiftly accelerating into the imagined Hollywood night to the pulsating Aerosmith music. Because the coaster ride is quite dark you can't make out what twists or turns are ahead of you, look out for individually lit Southern California landmarks, such as signs for Hollywood and the famous Roxy Theatre.

If you like your coasters dark with lots of unexpected twists and turns set to a powerful music track, you will really enjoy the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster. This exhilarating coaster has several "firsts" for Walt Disney World, including a high-speed launch that goes from 0 to 60 mph in 2. 8 seconds, it really scared me the first time I went on it, and there is also two rollover loops and one corkscrew. I was really pleased when we finally arrived at our concert!

You will have a photograph taken during the coaster ride, which you can buy for about $17 at the ride’s exit. If you do not want to carry the photo around with you all day you can pay for it and then collect it from the main entrance as you exit the park.

I hope you enjoy the ride but remember it is not for the faint hearted!
