What is a Disney Fastpass and how does it work?

Florida Guide > Disney General

A Disney Fastpass is available for the most popular attractions and rides at all four Disney parks. They do not cost anything and are included in your park admission ticket. As you collect your park map make sure you look for the rides with the Fastpass symbol next to them.

A Fastpass gives you a designated time period during which you can return to an attraction, so you can go and do something else until that time arrives. Then return to the attraction and bypass the queues by using the Fastpass lane. Brilliant! However, the Fastpasses for the most popular rides go quickly, so try and get these as soon as possible.

You will not be able to get another Fastpass straight away but, if you look at your ticket, it will tell you at what time another ticket will be available. It all depends on how busy the park is on the day of your visit.

Each attraction has its own Fastpass machines so you will have to actually go to the location of the ride to collect your Fastpass. When you get to the attraction have a look at the overhead display. This will show you the wait time for the stand by line and also the return time should you wish to get a Fastpass.

All you have to do is put your park ticket into the machine and you will be given your Fastpass. Everyone in your party has to have their own Fastpass although one person is able to collect them all, providing that they have everyone’s park ticket at the time.

Your ticket will give you an assigned time period during which you can return. You are now free to visit other attractions, go shopping, eat or have a rest on a park bench if you so wish.

When your time arrives, just return to the ride or attraction and look for the Fastpass lane. A cast member, to make sure you are returning at the correct time, will check your ticket. Don’t think that if you arrive five minutes early they will let you through, because they won’t. I have tried this and it does not work!

It’s a great feeling, as you walk virtually straight onto the ride, and see the other poor people standing in line. As you reach the ride, your ticket will be checked once more and this time taken from you (just so you cannot use it again). Those Disney chiefs think of everything!
