Gospel Brunch - House of Blues
Florida Guide > Dining
Brunch at the House of Blues is a great way to experience Gospel music and its messages. Situated in Downtown Disney there are two shows every Sunday at 10. 30 and 1pm. It’s a great way to hear an important message.
We arrived around 10. 15am and joined a queue waiting to go in. Whilst waiting we chatted with others. Close to opening the doors, waiters come round and offer Bloody Mary’s, amazingly decorated with lots of celery sticks to buy. On time, we moved up to the large doors of this music hall where we were greeted by very friendly staff showing us to our reserved table. This was great as there was no rush to the front. We had pre-booked in advance and had a great seat at a well positioned table in the main area, which seated 8 comfortably. There is more seating a little higher around the main floor area as well as additional tables on a second floor build around the main area below. All seats had good views.
Our waiter asked if we had been before. We said no as we had not been before, he explained where to find the various buffet tables and where to get drinks. The delicious food, with a Southern flavour, is available when you arrive and there are many serving areas: breakfast, lunch, a carvery, omelettes and deserts. You can have as much to eat as you can manage! And there’s plenty of it…. egg, bacon, biscuits and gravy, shrimp, macaroni, cornbread, cakes and donuts, waffles…. On the lunch table there is chicken, beef, salad…. on the carvery the day we went there was honey glazed ham and beef. You can order all types of omelettes…just choose! And then there are the deserts… white chocolate banana pudding, brownies, apple cake and fresh fruit - grapes, pineapple, various melons, strawberries and no doubt more than I can remember! We definitely did not come out hungry!
After about an hour the music starts up and the show begins. The singing is powerful, delivered with a strong Christian conviction. The group we saw ‘Apostle J. L Cash and Praise’ had 8 women singing in the group, of all ages, a man on drums, and three on keyboards – two men and one woman. They also had a young girl dancing to the music very gracefully. One song I found particularly beautiful – asking the questions ‘Imagine, where will I be when the Lord comes? What will I be doing and what will I say? Very emotive as we went to the show on Easter Day (Sunday). It was an outstanding performance with great with such great controlled voices, solidly delivered.
There is a commercial element as they have a CD available, but then it is a memento of the event and for the group it is their way of continuing to outreach their message. We all enjoyed the brunch and found everyone is so friendly! The staff were very helpful and at the end performance the singers came down to say goodbye.
And just in case you are still hungry, as you leave there are waiters offering chocolate chip cookies for you to take as you leave!
If you would like to enjoy a Gospel Brunch call the House of Blues on: 407-934-BLUE. It is worth booking in advance - both shows were fully booked the day we went.
