Our Evening Visit to Bubba Gump

Florida Guide > Dining

On our last visit to Universal Studios as we got off the walk way at the start of the paths to Universal and Islands of Adventure we passed the Bubba Gump restaurant we took a vote and unanimously decided this is where we were to eat that night.

We did not know what time we would finish our day so decided to just trust to luck to get a table on our return at night. When we returned as it was getting dark we went straight to the podium and put our name down for a table and were told there was about a twenty minute wait. Whilst the adults sank thankfully onto the benches outside the girls went for a look around the nearby shops promising not to be too long. My parents when they dine here alone usually go straight to the bar where it is relatively easy to get seated, here they can eat as well as watch Bubba Gump on the TV!

We did not have to wait for more than 15 minutes until we were shown to our table which was a booth. Once you are in the restaurant you soon realise that what you thought was quite small can actually seat a lot of diners. If you are seated at the front of the restaurant you can also see what is showing at the Multiplex cinema which is situated opposite.

If you have been at your table for some time and the servers appear to be ignoring you look on your table and make sure you are displaying the sign “Stop Forest Stop”. I know the first time we were there we did not do this and thought the servers were very rude! Once you have been served simply turn the sign to “Run Forest Run” and you will not be interrupted.

Bubba Gump has a lovely menu especially if you like fish. We usually share a few starters last time we had “Mama Gump’s Garlic Bread Basket” and the “run Across America Sampler”. The latter included a dip and chips, chilly shrimps, spicy chicken strips, hush pups (these are shrimp, fish and corn deep fried) and fried shrimp, I could eat it right now!

My Mother always has Bourbon Street Mahi Mahi which is this beautiful fish with a bourbon sauce served on mashed potato. My Father being hungry after a day at Universal ordered and thoroughly enjoyed “Shrimpers Heaven” this included coconut shrimp, chilly shrimp, tempura shrimp fries and a selection of dipping sauces. The rest of us just had fish with a beer batter and chips.

We really were too tired (and full) for dessert but whilst my Father paid the bill we had a quick mooch around the Bubba Gump shop before going back to the villa to fall into bed.
