Restaurants/Eating Options at Downtown Disney
Florida Guide > Dining
Downtown Disney’s Marketplace is a great place to visit whether for an evening out/a break from the parks or just a place to wile away the last few hours of your holiday before your evening flight.
Here you will find over 20 venues with everything from the Rainforest Cafe to the ultimate Disney merchandise store.
We have visited Captain Jacks Restaurant for lunch on one of the rare days in Florida when it did not seem to want to stop raining. Mother and I sampled the Strawberry Margaritas which were great whilst the adults opted for New England Clam Chowder which even my father who is quite a food critic said was delicious. The whole family then decided on the Crab Cakes which were equally as good as the chowder. The restaurant is open 11. 30am – 10. 30pm although we have not had dinner there.
If you want a lighter meal, well slightly, try the Earl of Sandwich, which is part of a national chain. I defy anyone not to be able to find a sandwich to their taste from their varied menu.
Our girls love the Pizza sandwich here accompanied by Earl Gray’s lemonade. We like their Full Montague sandwich and usually have this with a Cobb Salad that we share between us.
If we are eating at lunch time and strolling round the shops by mid afternoon we are ready for a visit to Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop. Be prepared that it does tend to get crowded in there but the smell of coffee as you enter the shop is lovely. It is also a good place to visit at the end of the day not closing until about 11. 00pm
One of our favourites is the Warm Brownie Sundaes with chocolate syrup to die for. Also try the Chocolate Chip Sundae but be prepared the sundaes are huge and are best shared between 2 people. Their Hot chocolate is good without being too sweet.
On one of our last days in Florida whilst waiting for our evening flight we had lunch at the Rainforest Café. This is a different dining experience that puts you in the middle of an Amazon rainforest. Live birds, animated gorillas, cheetahs and a tropical rainstorm are all around you. Although the atmosphere was very good the particular day we went the service was slow. We had burgers and salads and enjoyed the food even though it took a long time to come.
We like Fulton’s Crab House for an evening meal. Here you dine in a replica of a turn-of-the-century riverboat (which was once the Empress Lily). It is a seafood restaurant with a menu that changes daily to reflect more than 50 selections of the freshest seasonal seafood.
The girls enjoyed Fried Cod whilst the adults had the Seafood Platter. This restaurant gets very busy so I suggest making a reservation.
You will find the Portobella Yacht Club across from Fulton’ s Crab House. We have never eaten here but it specializes in Italian dishes and pizzas.
Wolfgang Puck Express has recently been refurbished and here you can get pizzas, focaccia sandwiches, soups and fresh salads.
And finally many children’s favourite. If they fancy a McDonalds they can get one at Downtown Disney between 8. 00am and Midnight!
