A glimpse at Epcot theme park

Florida Guide > Epcot

EPCOT was opened in 1st Oct 1982. This park is divided into two sections, Future World and World Showcase. This offers visitors a look into technology. It presents a vision of tomorrow’s world - today and to celebrate the cultures of the World’s nations.
It is distinguished by its glistering Geosphere.

Spaceship Earth is the story of communications throughout the ages - where we have been and where we are going. It is the ""Icon of Epcot, towering 180 feet above the park and I guess it must be one of the most photographed places in EPCOT, i know that I have a fair few snaps in my photo collection. Spaceship earth gives the opportunity for visitors to learn about the history of communications from cavemen to future centuries. The Award-winning, English actress, Dame Judy Dench offers a running commentary as your journey though the superb Audio-Animatronic scenes for 16 minutes. This is therefor a great ride to do when you need a little sit down, I usually save it until late afternoon. Your seats eventually rotate to reveal a glorious star-filled night sky. You continue your trip backwards passing through the future. The attraction was totally redone in 2007. The scenery was cleaned up, repainted and lots of new audio-animatronics as well as scenes were added. The new audio-animatronics are amazing, very realistic and have really brought each area to life.

Future World explores the wonders of science and natural world with a few rides like Mission space, a simulation trip to planet Mars and others. My favourite is "Soaring" passengers "travel" as if hang gliding only seated upright you swoop around earth and the seasons which even emulate the scent of oranges as you pass over the orange groves.

Between the two sections there is a huge lake that divides the Future World and World Showcase. Epcot's World Showcase is centered around the huge lake. There are eleven countries represented here England, France, Germany, Italy, United States, China, Japan, Mexico, Canada, Morocco, Norway. Every pavilion offers a collection of entertainment –education-tourism-trade exhibits and their famous restaurants that every guest can enjoy a lovely traditional meal. There really is something for everyone here. During every calendar year, Epcot includes special events like "Holidays around the World", "International Flower & Garden Festival", "International Food & Wine Festival", "Candlelight Processional", "Disney Wine & Dine Marathon" plus a host of other concerts.

At the end of every day, there is a fantastic show called Illuminations: Reflections of Earth this really is a must see so why not have a leisurely dinner before the show. This spectacular is an award-winning show and it is not hard to see why. It takes place in the middle of the lake and the countries pavilions. The night is filled with the glow of torches, high-energy music and utilizes fireworks, pyrotechnics, laser, fountains, and fire to create a visual production on the Park's World Showcase Lake. Video images are displayed on the Giant Earth Globe, a floating centerpiece which turns finally into a torch surrounded by fireworks.
